Realmente no sé qué se va a hacer de Freshtuff... ¡Tranquilos! Esto no es el fin, es sólo un punto de inflexión. En los próximos días, el veredicto; mientras una lista Spotify con el repaso a estos 2 últimos meses (o Grooveshark, si lo prefieres) con muchas canciones ausentes en el blog, por falta de tiempo, ganas, olvido, pero que estuvieron conmigo todo este tiempo.

Este viernes pasado me encontré con una sorpresa desagradable. El blog dejó de funcionar y en lugar aparecía un parking de dominios, una de estas webs extrañas llenas de links que no tardas medio segundo en cerrar..

Pánico. De repente me vino a la cabeza un e-mail de Google que me llegó hace unos días que me comentaba no había renovado el dominio (Blogger). Pensé era spam. Resulta que no, no era spam, pero lo extraño es que ahora mismo vuelva a funcionar. Eso sí, ya el mismo día que ocurrió todo esto, creé mi Wordpress y hasta un Tumblr, ya borrado, pero donde probablemente acabe. O continúe aquí... Ese es mi dilema ahora mismo. La respuesta, próximamente...

This past Friday I found an unpleasant surprise. The blog stopped working and instead appeared a domain parking, one of these sites full of strange links that you end up closing half a second after you open it..

Panic. Suddenly I was reminded of an e-mail from Google that I got a few days ago that stated the domain had not been renewed (Blogger). I thought it was just spam. It turns out that it wasn't, but the strange thing is this working again right now. But the very day this happened, I set up my Wordpress blog and Tumblr, which I already deleted, but where I'll probably drop this. Or I'll continue here... That is my dilemma right now. The answer, coming soon ...

Meanwhile a Spotify playlist with the summary of to the last 2 months (or Grooveshark if you prefer that) that includes many songs absent on the blog, for lack of time, will or forgetfulness.

El multiinstrumentista Kelly Pratt, colaborador de Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem y Beirut (ahí es nada) se ha sacado de la manga este divertido disco que incluye canciones inmensas como "Travelers".

Me sorprende la poca repercusión de trabajos como éste. Sobre todo por el envidiable curriculum de nuestro amigo con nombre de rubia de "Sensación de Vivir". Quizá tenga que ver que el trabajo ha salido por el exótico -y a menudo olvidado- sello de músicas del mundo Luaka Bop, que por otro lado nos ha brindado trabajos tan interesantes como los de Nouvelle Vague, Javelin, Delicate Steve o Kings Go Forth.

Bright Moments es una de sus últimas apuestas. Y esta es mi canción del día de hoy. Perfecta para alegrar cualquier día. A viajar:

I'm really surprised by the very little impact of jobs like this one. Especially because of the impressive CV of our friend named after the 90210's blonde. Maybe it's just because it was released at the exotic (often forgotten) world music label Luaka Bop, which, moreover, has given us such interesting works as Nouvelle Vague's, Javelin, Delicate Steve or Kings Go Forth.

Bright Moments is one of their latest bets. And this is my song for today. Perfect to cheer up any day. Let's travel!

Trío de canciones (indie) del verano. No podemos esperar más...

Ayer durante la (superlativa) sesión con Aleix de Indiespot en el Manchester, me comentaba que ya tenía candidata para la canción del verano 2012. El tema era "Little Numbers" (¡Barcelona!) del dúo de chicas suizo-alemán BOY a la que me pedía le prestara atención al estribillo. A ésta hay que añadir "The only place" de Best Coast que también dará que hablar en los próximos meses... ¡O eso creemos!

Pero no sólo hay chicas en esta soleada carrera. Me gustaría añadir a M Ward, acompañado, eso sí, de su deseadísima mujer Zoey Deschanel en "Sweetheart". Para mí, el mejor corte del disco, con ese punto 60s que tan bien les sienta. Y para acabar, Sean Bones, un outsider a tener en cuenta este verano. Sobredosis de ~~azúcar~~ sal.

Yesterday during the (superlative) DJ set in Manchester back-to-back with Aleix from Indiespot, he told me he already had a candidate for the song of summer 2012. The track was "Little Numbers" (Barcelona!) by Swiss-German girl-duo BOY to which he asked me to pay attention to the huge chorus. We should add "The only place" by Best Coast which we think there's gonna be some talk on the upcoming months ...Or so we think!

But not only girls run on this sunny race. I would add M Ward, together with, yes, his wanted wife Zoey Deschanel in " Sweetheart ". In my opinion the best cut on his new album, with that 60s feel that fits them so well. And finally, Sean Bones, an outsider to consider this summer. ~~Sugar~~ Salt overdose.

Las comparaciones con Smashing Pumpkins (¡¿otra vez?!) no se han hecho esperar, aunque a mí me suenen, sobre todo las guitarras, a los Built To Spill en su mejor momento. Si todavía no le has dado al play estás perdiendo el tiempo!

¡El temazo de la semana va para Miles Kane!
La verdad que da un poco de miedo.. la producción, esa instrumentación, esos coros. Ríete de "Simple Song"."First of my kind" es inmensa, massive como dicen por allí.

Tune of the week goes to Miles Kane! Actually it is kinda scary.. That production, instrumentation, those choirs. I'm having a laugh at "Simple Song". "First of my kind" is immense, massive as they say over there.

The Spinto Band - "Take it"

The Spinto Band regresan con su ¿octavo?? disco y ésta es su carta de presentación.
Y me pregunto por octavo porque siempre creí que la banda apareció en 2005, cuando sacaban el hit melancólico/épico "Oh Mandy". Era en el momento adecuado para las lágrimas; Arcade Fire explotando con "Funeral" y justo cuando otras bandas -ahora también semi-olvidadas- como Clap Your Hands Say Yeah o Wolf Parade aparecían en escena.

Pero el discurso de los del Wilmington no se anclaba en ese sonido oscuro y llegaba más lejos. Pueba de ello es esta "Take it" a la que acompaña el clásico videoclip divertido con niños de por medio, "Piraña" incluido. This is America! Y no me refiero a que..me refiero a esto.

Su nuevo disco "Shy pursuit" sale el 1 de mayo y ya se puede encargar desde la web oficial, donde también podemos descargar gratis "Take it". You win!

The Spinto Band are back with their eighth(!?) album and this is their advance. And for "eighth(!?)" I mean that I always thought that the band popped up in 2005, when they released the melancholic/epic hit "Oh Mandy". It was the right time for tears; other bands, now half-forgotten as well, such as Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Wolf Parade appeared on the scene and Arcade Fire were (cough) on fire with "Funeral".

But the lads from Wilmington are not anchored in the dark sound showed they could get further those paths. Proof of this is this "Take it" that comes with a classic funny music video with kids involved, a chubby one included. This is America! I don't mean that... I mean this.

¡Nos vamos a ver Tigercats!
Los londinenses pasaron por el último Primavera Club y según me comentan dejaron un buen sabor de boca, así que esta noche es una buena oportunidad de volver a verlos en La [2] de Apolo (0.30h apertura de puertas) donde, por cierto, el pasado sábado me sorprendió escuchar lo nuevísimo de The Cribs.

Ya han sido comparados con Orange Juice, The Wave Pictures, Hefner o Violent Femmes. Grande, no? Podemos escuchar/comprar su disco de debut "Isle of dogs" en bandcamp. ¡Planazo!

We are off to see Tigercats! The Londoners visited us on the last Primavera Club and apparently they left a good impression, so tonight it's a good chance to see them again at La [2] de Apolo (0.30h) where by thw way last Saturday got surprised by hearing the so-new The Cribs' single.

Air France han anunciado hoy que lo dejan... Cuanto me gustaría no tener que abrir posts como este.. :_(
Falta de inspiración o un exceso de perfeccionismo - dicen ellos mismos que no les salía nada digno de publicar - han sido las razones por las que el dúo de Göteborg no continuará poniendo banda sonora a las olas, el fondo marino, el sol y las fiestas en la playa.

"It feels good to be around you" fue lo último que pudimos oír de Air France y auguraba un futuro prometedor a la banda. Cuando más arriba habían llegado, decidieron abandonar. Como una muerte joven. La cometa ya vuela demasiado alto... Nunca para abajo.

Lack of inspiration or excessive perfectionism - they say that they couldn't complete any track that was worth releasing - have been reasons enough for the Göteborg duo to not continue. No more soundtracks to waves, sea bed, sun and beach parties.

"It feels good to be around you" was the last thing we could listen from Air France and it predicted a bright future for the band. When they reached their highest point, they decided to leave. As a young death. The kite now flies too high. No way down.

Thanks for the music! Sort of like a dream, no better...

DiS 12 Favourite Songs of the First Quarter of 2012

Drowned in Sound anunciaba la semana pasada en su foro las mejores canciones de lo que llevamos de año y animaba a sus lectores a hacer lo mismo.
Y se avecina un año complicado visto lo visto... o "de divorcio". No quiero decir que sean mejores o peores todos estos tops, simplemente no coincidimos. De entre las canciones que forman parte del top12 de DiS, sólo me quedo con "Don't Move" de Phantogram, que aparecía en octubre del pasado año y desde entonces he disfrutado de ella, aunque difícilmente llegaría tan alto en un top mío...

Echando un vistazo a las canciones de los lectores, la cosa no mejora demasiado. Pero hay espacio para el consenso. "Unless you speak from your heart" de Porcelain Raft (o "el primer hit de 2012") aparece en varios de esos rankings personales... quizá por eso de haberse convertido en "Best New Track". El alabado John Talabot también se lleva varias nominaciones, sobre todo "Destiny (feat. Pional)", así como "Myth" de Beach House, firme candidata en aparecer en listas y más listas después del boom que significó, pero que posiblemente sea desbancada por (oh) "Wishes" en el futuro. Tiempo al tiempo.

Elecciones menos convencionales son el hit(?) de Santigold "Disparate Youth" y lo nuevo de Hot Chip (demasiado largo?) se repite en varias de las listas. Me gusta ver The Men con "Turn It Around" y en menor medida "Open your Heart". Otra que aparece varias veces y que olvidé publicar en navidades es "One second of love" de Nite Jewel.

Más "arriesgados" son algunos lectores que eligieron "Capricornia" de Allo Darlin' y "Temporary" de White Rabbits los cuales considero temazos. Pocas más sorpresas...

Y para acabar 2 descubrimientos: "Wait" de Airhead, otro delicioso "Best New Track", que samplea Yeah Yeah Yeahs y Battles y Foe, una chica mala en la onda de Metric, que me parece extraño no haber oído nada antes de ella porque es una bomba. Casualmente me salieron 12 buenas canciones...

Last week, Drowned in Sound announced on their board the best 12 songs so far this year and encouraged their readers to do the same. Apparently we have a tough year ahead... or "a year of divorce". I do not mean those tops are better or worse, I simply do not agree with the choices. Among the songs that are part of the DiS' top12, I'd just stick with Phantogram's "Don't Move", which appeared last October and ever since I've enjoyed it, though it would hardly score so high on a top of mine..

Looking at the songs of the readers, the thing does not improve too much. There is room for consensus though. Porcelain Raft's "Unless you speak from your heart" (or "the first hit of 2012") appears in several of these personal rankings... maybe because it became "Best New Track"? Praised John Talabot also gets several nominations, especially "Destiny (feat. Pional)" and Beach House's "Myth" as well. A strong candidate to appear on these year's lists after the boom that supposed, but that may be superseded in the future by (Oh) "Wishes". Time to time.

Less conventional picks are the hit (?) of Santigold "Disparate Youth" and the new Hot Chip (too long?) are repeated in several of the lists and I like to see The Men with "Turn It Around" (and less "Open your Heart"). Another song that appears several times and I forgot to publish at Christmas is "One second of love" by Nite Jewel .

More "risky" choices, but great songs in my opinion, are "Capricornia" by Allo Darlin' and "Temporary" by White Rabbits. A few more surprises...

Finally two discoveries: Airhead's "Wait", another delicious "Best New Track" which samples Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Battles and Foe, a bad girl in the vein of Metric, which seems strange I had not heard of her before because she is a bomb (video above). 12 good songs by chance...

Yellow Ostrich - Marathon Runner

Yellow Ostrich vuelven poco menos de un año después de su debut, con un trabajo más accesible y porqué no decirlo, mejor.
"Marathon Runner", su carta de presentación y canción del día en KEXP el pasado lunes (en este enlace encontraréis también el MP3), es una de esas canciones nacidas para ser single. Con eso no quiero que la compañía del resto del álbum le siente mal, al contrario, e incluso encontramos otros cortes del mismo estilo; esos temazos perfectos para llenar mixtapes.

Algunos creerán que han vendido el culo, que se han vuelto previsibles, "más normales", más pop... "Haters gonna hate". Con esto me viene ahora la cabeza el nuevo de The Shins, no éste de Yellow Ostrich. Un paso adelante para los de Brooklyn.

Yellow Ostrich are back with a more accessible, and (why not?) better album than their debut just released about a year ago. "Marathon Runner", was my introduction via KEXP song of the (last mon)day (you'll also find an MP3 here), and it is one of those songs born to be single. And I don't mean that it doesn't fit with the rest of the album; you can also find other cuts of the same style, great songs for filling those mixtapes.

Some could believe they've become sold-out, predictable, "more normal", more pop ... "Haters gonna hate". It just comes to my mind now, new The Shins', not Yellow Ostrich's. A step forward for the Brooklyn band.
